I have a theory that may be a little left of centre (or extreme right of center as the case may be). After our CR we fell to 17 bucks as we would expect. Then on Sat 13th of July we saw the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and in the days that followed we saw our SP slump to below 15 bucks. The attempt on Trump's life and the wily manner in which he grabbed the photo op all but assured him of electoral success against a flailing Joe Biden. My first thought was for the threat to the green economy. Whilst steel production remains the biggest use for niobium, the coming of the next generation battery assured an increased demand for niobium. Trump is a renowned climate denier and his catch cry of 'drill, baby drill' is the war cry for the fossil fuel companies who have been funding a large portion of his campaign.....

However, I have looked at a stack of charts this morning of both AUS and US stocks and indices and it seems everything faded down after the July 13th event including US fossil fuel companies. So my thinking shifted. We know that the GOP doubled down on the conspiracy rhetoric and sought to deepen the political divide for their purposes in the wake of July 13th. I'm thinking now there may have been some deep concerns about political and civil unrest in the US as the crazy talk at the RNC got even crazier.

Enter Kamala Harris. A few days ago Joe Biden took the decision not to contest the next election and endorsed his VP Kamala Harris as the next Democrat nominee. It took a day or two but it seems the Kamala train has gained some serious momentum and it has become apparent the Trump camp is running a bit scared. Last night our time she gained the endorsement of the Obamas who are beyond doubt the most significant voices in the Democrats and I note this coincided with an upwards Whooooooska in the markets overall.

I think we here who are fans of WA1 can get a little too tied into our own little world which creates a breeding ground for the posters who crawl out from under a rock and try to convince us of all that is wrong with WA1. As I said, this is just my theory, but you don't need to look too hard to see that most stocks and indices suffered the same fate as we here at WA1 since the assassination attempt. I look forward to next week to further test my theory. If I am right and if the Kamala train becomes a high speed train then we are likely to see a swift recovery for no apparent reason.

PS. I love Joe Biden. He was the calming grandfather figure that the free world needed after the insanity of the Trump years. His many achievements, including the push towards a green energy future, have gone largely unnoticed by the world. He only endeared himself more to me by putting the country above his own personal ambitions this week. May his vision of a clean green future continue to prosper.
