China has been building 52 GW of new coal power plants in 2023.There are a total of 243 GW of coal power plants either under construction or permitted in China.The amount of energy produced by Australia's coal-fired power stations is insignificant compared to that of China alone.In the face of these facts, our push to a renewables-only power generation is not only impossible, it's pointless. It's also of course economic suicide. It's not going to happen. What happens only time will tell. Either we augment renewables with nuclear power or lots of gas. The irony is the nuclear option is the only one that makes sense to meet our net zero emission targets, not gas. Yet, the ALP and Greens are still stuck on the no-nuclear option. They have painted themselves in a corner. The ALP will one day have to face reality and change or else they become extinct.
