SVW bought back many shares 4 or so years ago.
Maybe FMG and PLS need to do the same and maybe the shorters will go elsewhere.
On-Market is theoretically concept that would probably work with FMG, but why not go with something that the board could instigate and make an extra payment for all shareholders. Thus within a financial year it is possible for all shareholders to get 2 lots of dividends and 1 Return of Capital payment!
To get the same result or affect which is achieved with on-market buybacks, they would simply consolidate a percentage number of shares!
Institution hate this approach and generally would badger the board into submission pushing for on-market buybacks.
From a tax position the Return of Capital is very similar to dividend payment instead of being based on tax it is based on the cost base of ur shares
If the Return of Capital is less than ur cost base it is tax free and all u have to do is deduct the payment received per share off ur cost base.
