We dart wild animals but shoot humans

In 1985 we banned Capital Punishment yet our
police services continue to defacto exercise it
by shooting offenders rather than darting them as
we do to quell/capture wild animals.

Tasers are a short range remedy but surely if
a wild animal can be taken down by a non-fatal
dart at a range of up to 100 meters, that police can do ditto with humans
Police shootings are mostly by pistols at close range.
