Article from June 2022: No 312 Squadron: Inside the last Dutch F-16 unit
With old age comes discomfort and that certainly applies to fighter aircraft, which are flown to the edge of their flight envelopes on a near-daily basis from the day they enter operational service to the day they are retired. The F-16AM/BM (MLU) is no exception and serviceability is therefore becoming harder to predict.
“A few weeks before a readiness exercise at the beginning of November, we had 24 aircraft available. That is unprecedented. At the start of the exercise, that number had been reduced to 14. There were 11 a month after the exercise and only four a few days later,” Vreeburg recalled.
Technical complaints with the F-16 vary wildly.
