I know of a patient who has a very rare condition with bilateral middle ear tumors. Now typically an ENT surgeon will operate through the ear canal with an operating microscope to remove them and they will say "grossly complete excision". But they can't say that the margin is actually clear, because that microscope lacks the magnification and the pathology suite to categorically say at a cellular level, "yep, we got it all". The institution where I think the operation will take place actually has a CZM Kinevo for neurosurgical use and potentially it could be used for this surgery, but I bet the ENT surgeons doing the procedures won't have heard of it and won't be familiar with it and won't be using it. Already it has wider potential applications.
