What is it that you are struggling with understanding here Max?
Ukraine is an independent country, which has a big chunk of its officially recognised territory taken away by force. Russia has decided to do it and nobody will make them change their actions. Being fully involved in the similar scenario in the past, I have been calling for a ceasefire and stop to the slaughter and destruction all along, because I know how this disaster will end.
It is nothing to do with respecting the international law and the concept of independence and sovereignty, because all that was buried, deep in the ground few decades ago.
It is a long gone dream. An illusion. I am a realist.
