January 2005 GLOBE SIGNS MAJOR INTERNATIONAL SURFING SPONSORSHIP DEAL Surfing champions, C.J. and Damien Hobgood to be sponsored by Globe apparel, footwear and accessories. Action board sports and apparel company Globe International announced today that it had entered a multi-year sponsorship arrangement with the 2001 world surfing champion, C.J. Hobgood and his twin brother, world championship event winner, Damien. In announcing the sponsorship, the CEO of Globe, Matt Hill said that the Hobgood twins were two of the best and most recognizable professional surfers in the world today and between them had won three World Championship Tour (WCT) events in 2004. “The Hobgood brothers represent everything that Globe stands for in surfing today and this sponsorship follows comments last year that we would be signing a number of high profile surf and skateboarding athletes to our teams over the next six months,” said Matt Hill. As two of the most innovative and talented surfers today, both C.J. and Damien Hobgood have risen to the top of the World Championship Tour rankings, leading to numerous tour victories. In 2001 C.J. was crowned the WCT World Championship and in 2004, the Hobgoods won back to back WCT events with C.J. winning the Billabong Pro-Teahupoo in Tahiti and the 2004 Tehara Pro-Japan, while Damien dominated the 2004 Quiksilver Pro-Tavarua/Namotu in Fiji. Matt Hill said, “With this sponsorship of the Hobgoods, our support of junior pro-surfing in Australia, and with Globe’s first WCT event coming up in Fiji in May this year, we are continuing our strong commitment to surfing.
