Cáceres.- The City Council of Cáceres has issued a favorable report to declare the lithium mine in Valdeflórez as a Business Project of Autonomous Interest (Premium). The Junta de Extremadura has ratified this declaration, thus facilitating the installation and implementation of the project of the company Castilla Mining, located just two kilometers from the urban center of Cáceres, a World Heritage City.
The Official Journal of Extremadura (DOE) published this Friday the validation of the decree declaring the mining project as Premia, a document that initially appeared in the DOE on June 24. This qualification will allow the project to benefit from more agile bureaucratic procedures and financial aid.
During the processing of the file, the Board gave a hearing to the City Council of Cáceres on April 11, establishing a period of ten days to speak out about the project. However, due to an error in the communication platform, the notification was not received by the City Council at the time.
To correct this error, on July 23, the Board sent the documentation again to the City Council, allowing it to rule on the declaration of autonomous interest. Despite the initial omission of the hearing procedure, the Board has considered that there was no real and material defenselessness, so the procedure is still valid.
The Board has reiterated that the completion of the hearing procedure in an extemporaneous manner has not caused any harm to the City Council of Cáceres, the only one affected by the defect of form. In addition, this action has made it possible to meet the principle of good administration, guaranteeing the full guarantees of defense of the City Council and contributing to the correct making of public decisions.
Against this decree, signed by the president of Extremadura, María Guardiola, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Sustainable Development, Mercedes Morán, a contentious-administrative appeal can be filed with the High Court of Justice of Extremadura within two months.
