there is no certainly in anything

plenty of very intelligent people end up poor

plenty of very dumb people end up rich

plenty of school dropouts end up with spectacularly successful lives


the issue with Australian education standards in younger kids - really means that they will struggle to go on to tertiary education -

and that is a fail for the nation

you cannot grow a nation from a country with a poorly educated population

the basics that we are measuring and failing in - are just basics. Important - yes,

but, they are really just the bottom steps ------- real education comes later.

And that IMO is where Australia really fails ------ we head to job training instead of real education.

I hear people saying that Oz is doing 'pretty good' and 'is right up there with others'

to me - that kind of thinking is and has been around for ages - and it's wrong.

One should strive for excellence - not just sit and think that 'we're ok, we're not too bad'
