Pretty ordinary that 'the significance has to be confidential but I believe them'... as opposed to the numerous other indigenous groups Regis has consulted with over the preceding decade.

And crucially, how long for stuck in more red tape... I am willing to be bet Regis could turn around and submit an amendment within a month, and then the project will still be sat on for another 3 years until a further decision is made or to push the timeline out further.

Honestly this country is becoming a joke with how long it takes to get any approval or work done. Not just in mining, look at any construction work generally, shit we cannot even build homes to house people, and a large part is council (government) red tape with approvals and the like. Its just plus plus plus.

This entire indigenous/cultural sensitivity needs to be completely re-worked. Put the requirement at the start of a project not at the end. Make a determination on an area/location before a company spends literally hundreds of millions to get a project off the ground only to have it shot at the finish line.

And if an area is too culturally sensitive to allow development Don't sell the freaking mining lease over the area. This particular pendulum and ambiguity around heritage has swung way too far.
