SANTIAGO, Aug 16 (Reuters) - BHP's revised offer to workers at its huge Escondida copper mine in Chile is worth some $34,000 in bonuses and low-interest loans per worker, two sources told Reuters on Friday, after the company said it had struck a deal to end a recent strike.
The mine's powerful union went on strike on Tuesday over payment disputes and came to a preliminary agreement on Friday to end the strike at the world's largest copper mine that had threatened to hit global supply of the red metal.
BHP previously offered a $28,900 bonus per worker, compared with the union's demand of 1% of shareholder dividends for the mine, or roughly $36,000. The new offer includes $32,000 as a bonus and $2,000 in 'soft' loans, the sources said.
