I reckon the merchant has to be a ZIP merchant for ZIP to get its full whack, otherwise ZIP dips out on the big commissions (up to 8% of the sale, average 4%) and only gets a portion of the interchange fee associated with Visa transactions going over the poles and wires. Either way, the customer does not get charged extra and ZIP needs to get as many merchants signed up as possible
