lies are what one tends to disagree with it seems.
often we read posts that are contrary to facts. global warming and the right/left nature of the enforced politics across the Anglosphere countries are the two primary drivers today, though the war in Gaza has resulted in yet another divisive area that needs lies to protect the aggressors from exposure.
and lies lead to the need to defend one's lies from moderation. Unsubstantiated Information is a class listed for moderation, yet we tolerate lies and argue the toss over what is a lie and what is substantiated or unsubstantiated truths.
so when lies are defended so fiercely, and push comes to shove.... there seems a need to report inflammatory posts for moderation. I dislike such but admit there are times when such posts are so extreme, so irrationally judgemental - in defence of one's position - that moderation seems the only answer.
plenty of posters use the report tag. such posters rarely escape moderation themselves, as their reasoning for reporting is purely on a personal desire to remove the arguments of others.
so why have a Report button? I think it's because the HC site wants moderate discussion without flaming and baiting by trolls.
is it abuse to report another person's post? if the post is abusive or trying to trigger another person (baiting), it becomes a tool for anti-abuse.
its a tough matter with no easy answers, but if we can control our own language so as to comply with TOUs there is no problem.
funny fun fact though, I've noted that its most often liars who call others liar.
