Dimitri, Whyalla has a steel mill, but no lead smelter. Port Augusta has almost no major industry.

There was a zinc smelter in Hobart on the bank of the river , I don’t know if it still exists, but it used to produce lead as well. The waste was dumped in the ocean. I don’t recall any mention of metal pollution in Hobart.

Control and elimination of fugitive dust and gas emissions from industrial operations is a major issue for nearby communities. Many industries didn’t do it well and it’s little wonder why it’s an emotive issue.

Personally I think the company could have been more open about this appeal and specific on the issue the case was being fought over. It cost me $25,000 on Friday.
