I'm guessing animal trials would not be required, as human trials for e. coli and campylobacter have just wrapped up and shigella was trialled (very successfully) in simians years ago. The new formulation won't be radically different to Travelan. Human trials a must, of course, hence the grant from US DoD. A prophylactic pill that protected against e. coli, campylobacter and shigella would be a big deal, these are mass killers in the tropics and less developed nations.
But what would I know.
