I dont know, if russia is not willing to respect the conventions, laws and boundaries that a global society and institution provides why should they expect their assets to be protected by them?

It could prove troublesome down the line, but I dont see it as wrong.

The russian elites already resent the west, they are still hurting from losing the cold war and the failure of soviet society over a western one.

Once the the current ruling class in russia is changed and the war is ended, there will be plenty of opportunity for a reasonable settlement.
Short term the money is forfeit.
