Worse news tho for the wide brown land - research published by the CSIRO's Journal of Botany in 1992 I recall
ah yes here it is offa my HDD

Dr Gifford of CSIRO published in 1992
“Implications of the globally increasing atmospheric CO 2 concentration and temperature for the Australian terrestrial carbon budget – integration using a simple model.”Australian Journal of Botany 40, 527-543.
    http://www.publish.csiro.au/paper/BT9920527.htm
Quote about the Australian landmass – “The present modelled rate of net sequestration is of a similar magnitude to CO2 emissions from continental fossil fuel burning and land clearing combined.”

So – the Australian landmass absorbs our carbon emissions.

Imagine how much of other Nations CO2 emissions we must be taking in if you added in the area of our marine economic zone.
The wide brown land is a CO2 absorbing super-power
