Spain has had a history of long and shorter term “guests.

They’ve had a bit of experience with asking the guests to move on

Below is a grab from the Internet, haven’t had time to compare it with official historical info but it tends to match what I’ve read over the years.

    The
Conquista (i.e. conquest) was when the Visigoths settled in the Roman Province of Hispaniain the 5th Century AD, on what if now the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). They were ethnically Germanic, but converted to Christianism.

Then, in the 8th Century the Muslim Moors, who came from northern Africa (the ethnonym Moore, moro in Spanish, comes from the ancient name Mauritania, a former Roman Province in northern Africa). The Moors conquered almost all the peninsula, and established a Caliphate in Hispania, called Al-Andalus.

Therefore the Reconquista (i.e reconquest) is the attempt to reclaim the whole peninsula from the Moors, an endeavour which started in the 8th Century, up until 1492 when the Catholic Kings of Castille and Aragon conquered Granada, the last Moorish stronghold in the peninsula.
