I can understand the frustration of those who have held for years and didn't sell any share at all during the entire journey. The associated holding cost would be very high. This isn't the only stock that has been shorted, nor will it be the last. Given every person will be operating under different set of circumstances and therefore have different perspectives, I can only speak from my own perspective - which is nothing has changed regardless of whether I am trading against a bot or human. At the end of the day, I am investing/trading against the market which consists of a mix bag of humans (weird and wonderful), bots, hedge funds, index funds and whatnots.
While I understand the mental/emotional impact of seeing the paper value of one's portfolio being temporarily cut by recent trading activities, it is temporary unless you believe the share will NEVER trade at its correct value again - in which case, you might as well exit all market and not just ASX since shortselling volume is far larger in US and Europe, with a huge derivative market to go with it. On the other hand, if you do believe in one of Warren Buffet's saying of "market is a voting machine in the short term, and weighing machine in the long term", then STX will revert to its correct/fair value eventually. And if that's the case, then an asset selling for much less than its fair value is a good thing, not an extreme risk.
