There are many 'gaps' in the sub-structure. During impulse moves liquidity voids (where price has moved quickly) do not always get checked. Efficient high liquidity markets tend to exhibit that feature (of returning to trade at places where price moved quick). I can show you as many 'windows' getting closed as those being left open in stocks at this end of the market.

Further more, the concept is not limited to 'gap ups / down'. Below the boxes highlight where price has moved quickly, as in no candle overlap. These are considered liquidity gaps.

As you can see, price has moved quickly without regard for liquidity gaps. This is in part to being an illiquid (inefficient) stock experiencing an impulse move.
When these voids start getting filled one could argue a large entity or market maker is involved.
