G8 has been heavily involved in the multi-employer enterprise bargaining process that will see the Government fund a 15% wage increase for sector over the next 2 years. In return the Federal Government has imposed a 4.4% fee increase cap over the next 12 months, with an additional cap to be determined the following year. The Federal Government will aim to permanently embed additional wage increases as they push towards their goal of universal free childcare. This will absolutely mean fee capping is embedded too. With the huge workforce shortage the sector is currently experiencing, educators will be very closely looking at which employers are offering 15%+ wages over the award and who isn't come December this year. Services can opt out of the enterprise agreement(if the majority of employees want it, Fairwork can force the employer to commence the bargaining process anyway) and retain full control over their fees but they will have to fund that 15% wage increase(and any subsequent increases in years after). Considering the larger corporate providers such as G8 are generally already charging fees at the top end of the scale, i'm not sure how many families will swallow any more significant fee increases in this current economic climate.
