Hi Manny
We live in what is called a leafy suburb of Sydney. As a result we have possums galore for neighbours. Our boundary fences are double brick and the possums use the top as super highways. Interestingly if you approach any of the possums while they are travelling along the super highway they freeze and ‘play possum’.
In this frozen position they are usually looking straight at you and can see you advancing but they maintain their frozen stance until you change direction so as to give the impression that their clever ruse has worked.
This survival instinct or defence against predators while humorous to we apex predators would defeat the Davis DVS and Prophesee Sensor which only detect moving objects.
Our possums with their primitive survival skill of suddenly becoming motionless would disappear and no longer exist as far as the Davis DVS and Prophesee sensors are concerned.
This problem is reproduced in a whole range of other scenarios familiar to Aussies. Kangaroos and wombats caught in headlights will remain motionless so that an event based system will no longer register their presence.
Enter TENNS just like we humans it uses memory to keep the now motionless possum in view.
This solution is critical if event based sensors are to find a market in ADAS and AV.
Event based sensors are not affected by weather or lighting conditions but this problem of losing objects that become stationary is one which Prophesee has written about and was working to resolve.
Brainchip AKIDA 2.0 TENNS removes this barrier to Event Based Sensor adoption.
Possums will have to undergo a recall and upgrade.
My opinion only DYOR
