Another reference point for UG costs being ~A$70-75/t comes from PMT's UG estimate of C$68.7/t. If the is the rate of UG mined ore then the deeper extensions of Burmeister are most likely going to be more profitably mined using UG mining than a deep open pit. I suspect a modest thickness, gently sloping seam is highly amenable to UG mining because the mining with would greatly exceed the true width. A true width 20m seam may start to act like a 50m-100m wide seam when horizontal slices are considered.
If the UG ore is 1.4% with 70% recovery rates then 5.6t of ore is needed for one ton of SC5.5. If Burmeister were to have UG mining costs of US$52.2/t then the mining cost for spod would be ~US$293/t. Mining costs are frequently the highest cost item in the cost structure for hard rock mines.
