Fromammonia to hydrogen
In the bayin front of Lüderitz, 80 kilometers south of the village, in a few years, protected from the waves and winds of the Atlantic, huge tankers with"green" ammonia are to be loaded. In the future, Lüderitz and Namibiashould help Germany and Europe reach their climate protection goals and becomeCO2-neutral until the middle of the century. For regenerative energies, thebest prerequisites in the country in southern Africa - sun and wind areabundant.
Namibiastrives to export green hydrogen before 2025. Due to its low population densityand a moderate population development, it will be able to quickly cover its ownneed for renewable energy and green hydrogen and quickly reach the thresholdfor export relatively quickly.
Because ofits natural conditions, Namibia is one of the most attractive countriesworldwide to produce inexpensive, green ammonia. The gas is one of the greenfuel and is an important component of the energy transition. Up to 2035,ammonia is expected to be 3.5 million tons per year in Germany. Part of itshould come from Namibia.
Wind andsun deliver the green electricity
Thepreparations for a wind farm are currently being made on the 4,000 squarekilometer location. For this purpose, wind measurement masts are set up. Theyshould determine the best positions for the wind turbines. The start ofconstruction is planned for 2026. From 2030, two million tons of green ammoniaare to be produced a year with the help of this green electricity.
Future
Namibia hasmade a lot of impact on energy. Therefore, Namibia has to define and organizeits energy policy. This applies to oil, gas, hydrogen, wind and sun.
And...During this great political planning, some may be delayed in the daily business of the Energy Ministry.
