is the idea of men as the owner of women. This is I believe , but not articulated, a matter of gene control. The man who must provide for their partner and children ( because a vulnerable pregnant woman or mother of children, needed protection is off spring were to survive) , wants to know that it is their own progeny they are protecting
what was essentially a biological imperative morphed into sets of social rules that outlived their usefulness but are so deeply ingrained it’s almost impossible
