You've brought the 4% charge up before, but as we've discussed before it's unlikely to be an issue - just because a company "can" pass on the charge, doesn't mean they will.

Just think about it logically - it's a terrible business practice. It's far better to just price your items to absorb the cost.

The vast majority of businesses I go to or see in Australia do not pass on a surcharge for credit card fees. And AMEX charges a pretty high fee as well I believe (maybe 3.5%?), and they are accepted at lots of businesses without any surcharge. And available at other businesses for a small surcharge (e.g. 1%).

And AMEX is doing just fine, so I don't see any reason why Zip will face any issues even if the RBA allow businesses to pass on a surcharge.

In addition, I believe the research/studies have shown that having Zip as a payment option brings in additional customers, increases sales conversions etc. Businesses benefit from partnering with Zip, advertising Zip as an option etc. If businesses didn't benefit then you wouldn't see Zip partnered with so many throughout Australia.
