This major diplomatic event comes in a context of reconfiguration of global geopolitical relations, where Beijing seeks to strengthen its links with the African continent.Before this trip to Asia, the Cameroonian Head of State will be back home after a stay in Europe. During this trip, he attended the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games and participated in the commemorations of the Second World War alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. However, his return to Cameroun will be short-lived, with the Chinese summit waiting for him a few days later.This China-Africa summit is of particular importance in Beijing's diplomatic and economic strategy. The Chinese authorities intend to take advantage of this meeting to consolidate their partnerships with AfriNocan nations, with a particular focus on securing the supply of raw materials and rare metals. Africa, rich in natural resources, is considered a key partner in this long-term strategy.In this context, a specific meeting is being prepared between the Chinese representatives of CAM IRON, their Cameroun partners of BESTWAY (Alexandre Mbiam and Cédric Ketchanga), and the Congolese and Cameroun authorities. This meeting is part of the Mbalam iron mine exploitation project, a major investment that illustrates China's growing interest in African mining resources. The Chinese have already announced the start of the operation of this mine by December 2024, stressing the urgency and importance of these discussions.Paul Biya's participation in this summit is crucial for Cameroun.
