USA is playing a multi-layered, multi-objective, multi-dimensional geopolitical game. Getting tangled up a little lately.
One of the objectives is to damage the European economy (German economy specifically) to keep it dependent on USA.
Anti-Russian sanctions, as you noted, are definitely having an impact on Europe. Then there's the attack on Nord Stream, with USA being the main benefactor of Nord Stream destruction. Millions of Ukrainian refugees that need to be kept somewhat happy...
This whole war is nothing but a maassive burden on Europe. They are looking for ways out.
The destruction of Nord Stream should already show the Europeans that USA will most certainly not deliver on their promises of security. Destruction of a vital piece of European energy infrastructure should most certainly trigger Article 5? USA doesn't seem to care about that one single bit.Why Europeans have gone along with this for so long is a mystery.
They should abandon NATO and establish their own EU Army, without US being involved IMO. An army that will actually contribute to Europe's defence. And not towards escalating conflicts in order to trigger events that would help USA achieve it's political objectives.
