No they don't die in cold weather, batteries temporarily have a reduction in available capacity while they are cold.

The reality is of course that unless you visit the ski resorts in winter Australia doesn't get cold compared to our cousins in the northern hemisphere so the main reason for any range reduction from low temperatures here is simply the energy required to heat the cabin.

The majority of modern EVs use heat pumps for the integrated thermal management of the motors, battery and cabin so although both high and low temperatures do reduce an EVs range their effect is minimal in Australia. In climates where the temperatures drop well below freezing if the battery is preconditioned before driving then simply using it will keep the battery warm anyway.
