The R&D spend is paltry because management just throw chips on a new board (ideally in 'partnership' with another minnow), shove them in a new box and rename them. I doubt there can be any significant R&D occurring at that spend.
Hell, BRN even include two of the original, old stock Akida chips in the Edge AI box (that is sold out, yet no customers have received their order...).
Given BRN's lack of commercial success, it could get worse with an underspend on future innovation.
