    End-of-day summary:

    The share market finished just 30 points from a record close after the US Federal Reserve indicated it was ready to lower interest rates.


    Rate-sensitive sectors rallied as the ASX 200 climbed 60.6 points or 0.76% to 8084.5. Today's gain was the 11th in 12 sessions and carried the index to within one decent session of a new high. The old closing high was 8114.7 on August 1.

    US stocks rallied on Friday after Fed Chair Jerome Powell declared, “The time has come for policy to adjust”, clearing the way for a September rate cut. The S&P 500 firmed 1.15%.
