Bracks resigned simply because he realised there's more to life than work.
Thwaites resigned because despite having been deputy opposition leader to Brumby in the mid 90's he knew he couldn't work with a Brumby govt.
Partly because he was instrumental in rolling Brumby as opposition leader so therefore he wasn't going to get a look in, but mainly because he was a very good judge of character.
