AI can do a lot of design work that took trial and error.

For example it's being used to redesign computer System on Chip (SOC) layouts to optimise performance/efficiency/fabrication cost.

A lot of engineering design work in general is switching to it. In my line of work it can predict the failure of something before it occurs, assess the quality of construction in real time.

The things the general public see, like weird renders of famous people, AI generated videos that look like an acid trip, that is within the creative space and is extremely complex - you're basically trying to recreate human behaviour and creativity. If you made you assessment that "AI is garbage" on that basis you're only seeing a little bit of the picture, it would be like seeing someone play Pong on a computer in the 70s and making the assessment that "computers are garbage."
