I think the problem that Gillard has with the whole "gay marriage" issue, is that she gave a commitment to the christian lobby before the last election. That is that there will be no legalisation of gay marriage.
She may find it easy to break her promise to the electorate on the carbon pricing issue, but it clearly is quite difficult to upset the christians.
