People always say the same to us.
What a lovely farm. So lucky to have it. You reckon it was easy with the interest rates we endured in the nineties we reply. So easy stacking hay into the shed on Christmas Day.
Same with the kids. Oh, you’re so lucky your kids are such hard workers. Really it’s the way we brought them up.
Same with education. No slacking allowed. A good education is the greatest gift you can get and you should appreciate your teachers.
All three boys were taught at an early age that there was no division of labour in this house. Everybody does the housework and everyone cooks dinner at least once a week.
The only thing we didn’t do was get a dowry from their wives for raising really good husbands.
My Dad always used to say to put your back into it while you’re young. Buy a house or some property as soon as you can.
