I beg to differ. Politicians could fix the rental crisis by bold initiatives. Alas they aren't brave enough.
There is masses of land around all our capital cities. Relatively "cheap" rural land. Yet once rezoned as residential it is worth a fortune with Spivs making a fortune as property developers by bribing councillors.
The problem is "planners". We should open up new land as we did in the 1950's and 1960's. Also loosen a lot of planning laws to allow people to buy what they want.
My first house was a 3x1 brick veneer with septic tanks. It was quite adequate. You couldn't build that today.
