The 'last test' request is not so much just for a great player who has contributed so much but also very much for his fans to have a chance to say 'Thank you' and 'Farewell' to him. Is that so much to ask? Would the selectors lose any respect if they were to accede to such request? I think not. Just because some past greats were dropped unceremoniously before does not necessary mean it was correct to do so. I think it is time for these great sportsmen to be shown gratitiude for their contribution rather than to simply discard them.
Now I would like to stress that I agree that it is time for Mark to go but I think no one should begrudge him this last test both for his contribution to the game and for his fans alike.
