Currently Mongolia still imports about 20% of their energy from Russia. There is room for increased local baseline power if they reduce their reliance on energy imports without hurting their current infrastructure. The need for this has been highlighted late last year, when an incident at one of Russia's hydro plants saw Mongolia cut off Russian electricity.
I agree, so far only a lot of talk about transmission infrastructure upgrades, without much action. Yes, Power Plant N5 seems to be going nowhere, but I see that as an opportunity for early monetisation at Nomgon in the succes case. Small modular gas powered energy is less capital intense and highly scalable. Generating a small base load of electricity in the remote area we operate in will provide benefits for the locals, as currently the transmission lines are old and come from way too far, resulting in too much loss of energy. As the infrastructure will inevitably and gradually be upgraded, power generation can gradually be scaled up too, along with proving up more gas in the area.
