Negative power prices are not sustainable for anyone.

However, this is a product of the old market system and the old baseload system which is rapidly becoming redundant .

With a renewable plus storage system , peaks and spikes will largely be a thing of the past. Fossil fuel systems are limited by there capacity and their ability to respond quickly to demand . That's why we have a market system that ultimately controls peak demand .

With a renewable system with plenty of storage those limits go away . Just the storage capacity of an ev fleet alone in 20 years time will dwarf the fossil capacity of today . By that time just about every electrical installation will have its own storage as well as local communities. The load on the grid will be less because many of it's customers will have their own generation and storage thus avoiding crazy peak charges .

lf governments, in particular the federal COALition , had been more proactive over the last decade, this problem wouldn't be as large as it is today .

While we wouldn't necessarily be able to avoid surpluses like we are seeing at the moment, we would've been much further along the track to a clean energy transition .
We have completed clean energy projects that have been sitting idle for years because they are waiting for grid connections to catch up .

lf we had started on projects such as Snowy 2.0, the 2nd Marinus link, Project Energy Connect , the Hume Link etc, we would be much better off today. lf we had also established deals with retiring coal fired plants we may have also reduced the need for new gas fired plants going forward .

We have known about this energy transition for a long time . We have known that we would be shifting from a baseload system to a widely distributed generation system . We have known for a long time that the renewable energy zones would require new transmission links that we'll need for at least the next 50 years . We have known for a long time that coal fired power in Australia was nearing end of life and it needed to be replaced. We have known for a long time that Bass Strait gas was in serious decline .

And yet the COALition refused to address it . The Scouppet's " gas led recovery " . ScoMuppet and Taylor declaring that we'd " wait for the technology " despite having suitable technology already available .
And now we have the Dud with his idiot plan for nuclear that's decades away at best .

The industry tells us that most new evs over the next year or two will come with V2L and V2G as standard . The governments and industry are working very hard behind the scenes to get the legislation in place to allow evs to become available for grid services.

Change is coming and its coming fast .
