IMO you dont appreciate what a country's perception of its
national Security means.....It simply means that all means
within its power will be used to protect the country and its inhabitants .

There are 2 issues of perceived National Security threats here:

    (a) That of the Ukraine
    (b) That of Russia

IMO the latterb is not been appreciated/accepted by the West and
in particular the USA who uses/leads NATO as a tool to implement
its own national security issues which in this case to minimise
Russia's (its no 1 enemy because of Russia's Nuke capability)
ability to service/add to its current Nuke arsnal and its ability
to deliver Nukes supersonically avoiding the US missile defence shield.

The Cold War has been all about the balance of power between the USA
and the then USSR and that even a first strike by either would automatically
    imply MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction)

All that changed. in 1991 when the USSR imploded but as Russia recovered
economically via its Petro-Economy, the US egged on the ex Warsaw Pact
countries to join NATO (with good reason to secure their newly acquired western
    status)

While Russia tried to limit NATO's eastward expansion, it also developed
Hypersonic ICBM which challenged the US newfound hedgemonic status.

    Russia's red line was NATO's further encroachment around the Black Sea;
namely to the Ukraine. Georgia & Moldova which now leaves the Ukraine
taking the brunt of the tension between Russia and a US led NATO.

Was Gorgia intelligent to give up its 2 Oblasts to Russia in Aug 2008?
I guess in relative terms (ie Georgan outcome vs that of the Ukraine) ...yes
but in Ideological terms that justifies the wasting of millions of lives and billions
of wealth,,...then yes.....so take your pick.

Georgis simply cant join either the EC or NATO because of border disputes
and its legal/political system . In that sense Russia has enforced its Red Line.

    Similarily in Moldova

So, IMO there's alot at stake for all the "Stake Holders " innthe outcome of this
Ukrainian war which, IMO, has the propensity of expanding even further with
the Doomsday Clock indicating that a Nuke War is the nearest ite ever been!!

How absurd and how absurd for posters on this thread to advocate an escallation
of this war.! We need a ceasefire now and let the negotiations begin and then
let's see who the real power brokers are around that table.

Imo the Pentagon/CIA will feature prominantly at that table despite the bigots
saying that this is not a US/Russian proxy war.
