@rcman - I have misunderstood - I now remember what i said on another thread. She was the Jewish mama of my first boyfriend - and I knew her after the war, but her son told me that she survived the war by 'pretending' to be Palestinian to the country folk in Austria among whom she survived. They had no idea what either a Jew, nor a Palestinian was; but she had this exotic beauty of a gypsy woman so she looked different and 'Palestinian' explained it..
She played with her quartet at my church, when I was a young teenager
- and Jewish people were given preferential treatment, jobs etc. in Austria when they returned after WWII and whenever possible their property was restored.
This whole tragedy is so big, it keeps on throwing ever-wider circles . . .
