The sheer distances involved in interstellar travel make it appear impossible. For us, the ability is nowhere in sight. Science fiction makes it look easy with 'warp drive,' ' wormhole,' 'folding space,' etc, but at the best speeds that we are capable of, the time it would take for a trip to the nearest star to our own would takes tens of thousands of years.
