I agree with you that there is too much emphasis on elite sports by Australian governments and much of the money would be better spent on getting more kids to have an active life.
Not sure you can make too much party political capital out of it though as neither side of the House would have been uncomfortable saying no to such a powerful lobby as the soccer fanatics.
