I have a mate (best man actually) who works in heavy earth moving equipment, ex Cat in Europe. He’s now “freelancing” as an agent. This year he’s just completed a deal with a Chinese manufacturer selling to a Scandinavian company that leases out heavy equipment- all electric, using CATL batteries. They use the equipment for 5 hours, drive up to an overhead unit which pulls out the battery and replaces it with a fully charged one.
Apparently Tesla use them too. He says the CATL battery will out last the car.
My take on all this is that we have not yet chipped the surface of the numbers and uses for batteries, and by direct implication the need for the minerals to make them.
