Yes, the war started in 2014. Launched by Ukrainian interim government against what it considered as it's own regions and it's own people of Donetsk and Lugansk.
People of Donetsk and Lugansk wanted to become independent. Instead of listening to the will of it's people, the illegal Ukrainian interim government, aggressively invaded Donetsk and Lugansk, and started killing people.
