It's going to come down to what those holders value the AAUO at.
If they sell 2 AAU at 0.003 they'll have "paid" 0.002 for each of the "free" AAUO, sell the AAUO at 0.001 and they value their AAU at 0.0035.
making the final MLV JV payment is a positive, and that's actually a bring forward of timelines by 3 months as per the latest update as I recall.
