My son is 15 and in year 9, yes I make him do homwork for 1 hour each schoolnight and I have a programme called Mathspower that he does several units of nightly as well. On top of this he has just completed his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze ' he did 70 hours community service this year working at the local library and he did 40 hours work placemenrt for his EOS subject.; He also does fencing and karate as sports and between the two he spends 7 hours a week at them . He is not a brainiac but he is up there with a great chance of a good career with choices. To be truthful he sometimes rebells against the homework but thats natural for a 15 year old child;he calls me the odd name and I get the finger {which I spot from the eyes in the back of my head}. He got good marks in all subjects except school sport which he detests!! Last Friday evening he got two awards for being the best at history and Environmental Science in his year. I regularly have his mates over etc etc
You cant rely on schools alone to educate your child and thats a known fact and has been for years. If you are not an active participant in your childs education you will have problems.
Who knows what the future will bring and my fingers are crossed. Someone told me long ago that you ahve to keep your kids busy ---------I subscribe to that theory.
