I don't know what you call this but this is not a wash sale, which is when you sell a security and buy it back within a very short window. That is typically done during year end window dressing when people wants to offset their gains by selling some stuff on the 30th June, before buying them back on the very next day. ATO takes a very dim view of this. Even my accountant often questions some of my year end trades to make sure they don't incur the ire of the ATO.

Anyway, back to this... not sure why the shorters would want to buy and sell to themselves - which is what you are saying?

If you review the transaction listing in the appendix of the latest substantial notice: there is no way a retail investor could legally buy and sell like that without running into a market manipulation charge. In any case, what are your thoughts on this Jp 5% holding? Who are they holding it for?
