The issue is that renewables like wind and solar cannot be deemed as Base Load, as Mother nature has bad timing in that the wind can drop and the clouds come over and a huge amount of generation is lost.
Base load generation will pick up the slack to a degree and then pull in "Running Reserves" within the Base Load generation network. As we have an increasing demand for power and it is accelerating due to EV distribution and home/work charging the need for greater "Peaker Plants" is growing, and at some point we need to find deep gas reserves to be able to build some large Gas-to-Power stations using "Combined Cycle" & Binary Power plants to meet the ever increasing demand for Base Load delivery.
